New Media, Old Media

The Pew Research Center's Project for Excellence in Journalism collected data on traditional and social media news sources, including blogs, Twitter, and YouTube. Based on the results of this study, it seems necessary to keep up with different types of social media news sources in addition to mainstream press venues if you want to achieve a comprehensive view of the world's events because each platform features different varieties of stories. Other than the differentiation between types of popular topics on each medium, I thought it was interesting that stories trending for shorter periods of time on all of the social media sites as compared to the mainstream press. This seems to fit with the notion that those who engage in social media outlets typically have shorter attention spans. I know I do!
