Tips on Designing and Developing Mobile Websites

After they created a functional mobile website at Oregon State University Library, Kim Griggs, Laurie M. Bridges, and Hannah Gascho Rempel shared the details in this code{4}lib article. Here they provide step-by-step guidelines on how to make your own library mobile-friendly. It's not an easy process and is made more difficult by the fact that there are just so many different type of mobile operators to accommodate. They authors were very clear on the importance of providing for as many mobile users, as possible, however. I have to agree. Even though it may require extra work, some patrons depend on their web-enabled mobiles in place of a personal computer due to financial limitations, and we need to be specially consider people in this situation. We don't want to leave them in the dark or offer a sub-standard experience just because of the way they access the Internet!
